SSMS breakpoint won't add

I'm having an issue in SSMS 2014 where I'm trying to debug a sql script and everytime I try to add a breakpoint ssms becomes unresponsive and won't add the breakpoint. I then have to close ssms via  the task manager. Any recommendations on what could
